Frequently asked questions

What screws are best for timber?

Generally speaking, its best to use performance woodscrews with timber such as Timco C2 woodscrews. The reason is that they are specifically designed to cut, thread and countersink themselves into timber without splitting and damaging the wood.

What woodscrews are ideal for chipboard?

Our range of Timco Solo woodscrews are a great option for use with chipboard. Unlike performance wood screws they don’t have a cutting point at the tip, helix shank and countersinking ribs beneath the head. These features are not required with chipboard as the density is much less that other wood types.

Are woodscrews suitable to use outdoors?

Outdoor nature can corrode standard screws overtime so it's best to use either decking screws which are designed and coated to withstand corrosion or stainless steel screws.

What are the benefits of using partially threaded woodscrews?

Partially threaded wood screws offer greater clamping, holding power and preventing timber jacking apart. They only thread into one of two materials being used. Our selection of Timco C2 Clamp-Fix is designed for this specific type of application

What is the difference between standard woodscrews and twin threaded woodscrews?

Twin thread wood screws are designed with deeper threads for softer wood types in order to gain better pull-out resistance and greater holding power.
